Well the Tangerine and Charcoal (TC) showed up but threw the traditional game plan out the window. Essentially, the TC have ground the WVFC into submission in recent times with fine footballing craft way beyond their individual abilities. This had been based on a fused spine of central defence, midfield and striker - anbody who got the ball would always return it to the spine. But not today........ Throw out the tested game plan and just kick it seemed to be the motto. End result was a 3 - 1 win to WVFC. I reckon we best forget this result as there is no way the TC will play like that again.

Speak English Boy.

They missed "Mulley" first half and looked a bit better when he came on. However I prefer to think it was a more pass oriented methodology from WVFC that saw us prevail.

The Woden Blues have today sent a message to the Capital Football, Masters Div3 competition that they intend taking the minor premiership by downing Lanyon 1-0 in a top of the table clash.

The Blues now sit on 35 points, 4 points ahead of Lanyon, courtesy of today’s vital win. Lanyon, 31 points, sit 1 point ahead of Tugg Old Boys who had a lucky escape against the Legends. A battle royal will ensue for 4th place with ANU, Brindabella, Brindabella O/43’s and Olympic all vying for a place in the finals. Most experts believe that the Legends will still be the surprise pick, wining the next 4 gams to press for a place also.

Today’s game was a tight affair. Lanyon who play a tight game gave very little away. Despite multiple forays into the Lanyon half via balls sent wide, Lanyon repelled these attacks. The Blues midfield were very strong, the back line gave very little away, though Lanyon were equal to the occasion.

The game was opened up when Adam and Anton combined beautifully on the right flank. A great shot from Adam, courtesy of a beautifully placed through ball from Anton saw the keeper spill the ball and Marcus to net what would turn out to the be the wining goal. Lanyon were not going to give up and continued to pressure.

Sustained pressure resulted in a penalty awarded to Lanyon. Reading the shot to perfection, Paul M dives to his left miraculously deflecting a great shot with Gerard clearing the ball from the danger zone. The half time break saw the score at 1-0.

The second half saw two teams 100% committed, continuing to create opportunities, though both defences were equal to whatever attack was provided.

The Blues run home:
Belwest (h)
Brindabella O/43’s (a)
Legends (h)
Olympic (h)

The Legend run home:
Brindabella O/43’s (a)
Brindabella Blues (h)
Woden Blues (h)
ANU (a)

As the last 4 weeks approach… it’s a time for everyone to ask themselves… why am I playing this game? What do I hope to achieve this year?
