The Woden Blues took a step closer to the minor premiership today with another strong performance overcoming a determined Brindabella O/43’s 5-0.
The game stated with both teams demonstrating they weren’t here to make up numbers, however it wasn’t long before the Blues asserted there superiority, a theme that was to continue throughout the game.
At about the 15 minute mark beautiful build up in the midfields from Gary and Steery resulted in a pass at the top of the box to Chacos who ran towards the right of goal along the top of the box. Gary wrapped around behind Marcus and with the defence converging on the man with the ball a gap opened up behind the ball player who with a deft heel played it to Gary who had wrapped around behind him and then passed to an unmarked Gerard on the left of goal who shot truly.
Minutes later midfield again played to Marcus at the top of the box and as he turned with the ball, momentum saw the ball continue on without Marcus straight to Adam who put it straight passed the Keeper,
At half time the gam was in the balance at 2-0.
15 minutes into the second half saw a beautiful ball down the left wing by David Barton to Marcus, flying on to the ball he got passed the right midfielder and then dribbling to the last line of defence cut in towards goal and improving his position left him one on one with the keeper. The opportunity was not wasted. Marcus could be heard uttering the wise words of Andy “Roo” Longhorn as he headed back to the centre circle… why shoot when you can dribble the keeper.

This goal sore Mike Edmondson take the field and the flood gates opened.
Midfield were again responsible for masterful play on the left side of the filed, Gerard, with 11 men to beat somehow managed to get a shot on goal, which the keeper knocked down. The ball was somehow cleared off the line with the keeper left lying on the ground from the power of the shot… Mike Steer regathered, deftly approached goals from the right and from a miracle angle placed the ball between goal keeper, defender and the post. At 4-0 the Brindabella O/43’s saw any chance of playing finals football evaporate before them.
Moment later, Mike E put pressure on the keeper, who spilled the ball and with the mix-up in goals Adam’s knee and the ball came together in a beautiful union of goal score and goal.
The game ended up 5-0 in an, at times awesome, though often, undisciplined spectacle of football.
The Blues now look forward to the much anticipated game against the Legends… perhaps the most feared team in the competition.
